Safety-critical products

Car seats, bassinets, gates and sleep products are safety-critical. Our reviews are a guide to choosing between products; they are not a substitute for the product's own manual, your vehicle's handbook, or a hands-on check by a qualified child passenger safety technician.

A correctly fitted budget seat protects better than a badly fitted expensive one. If you are unsure your seat is installed correctly, have it checked.

Recalls

We check open recall notices before testing and again before republishing, and we state what we found. Recall status changes. Before you buy, and especially before you buy used, check the model and date of manufacture against the relevant national safety regulator's own database.

Unverified figures

Where we could not verify a specification ourselves, our comparison tables read "not measured" rather than leaving a blank, and the text says where a figure came from. We would rather show you a gap than present someone else's claim as our measurement.
